The Good Egg is a 1939 Merrie Melodies short directed by Chuck Jones.

A hen with no chicks adopts a leftover turtle egg, which obviously hatches into a turtle. Naturally, the turtle does not fit in nicely with the baby chicks. The turtle becomes the butt of jokes for the chicks, until real danger happens.

  • The EU "dubbed version" uses the 1941-55 "Merrily We Roll Along" ending cue while the US "dubbed version" uses the original ending cue.
  • Despite the fact that this short was re-released and had its original opening music cue cut on its 1945 Merrie Melodies reissue print, the original opening music cue is known to exist.
