"Suppertime" is a song featured in the 1986 musical comedy film Little Shop of Horrors, directed by Frank Oz and based on the 1982 off-Broadway musical of the same name by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. The song is performed by Levi Stubbs as the voice of Audrey II, a man-eating plant that manipulates Seymour Krelborn, played by Rick Moranis, into feeding it human flesh.

Background[]

The song is the thirteenth track on the film's soundtrack album, released by Geffen Records in 1986. It is a reprise of the earlier song "Feed Me (Git It)", with a similar melody and lyrics, but a more sinister tone and faster tempo. The song features Audrey II convincing Seymour to feed his boss, Mr. Mushnik, to him, after Mushnik discovers that Seymour killed a sadistic dentist and fed him to the plant. It also features Crystal, Ronette, and Chiffon, three street urchins who serve as the film's Greek chorus, singing backup vocals and urging Seymour to comply with Audrey II's demands.

Lyrics[]

Audrey II:
He's got your number now
He knows just what you've done
You've got no place to hide

You've got nowhere to run
He knows your life of crime
I think it's suppertime

Come on, come on
Think about all those offers
Come on, come on
Your future with Audrey
Come on, come on

Ain't no time to turn squeamish
C-c-come on, come on
I swear on all my spores
When he's gone the world will be yours
Yours, yeah, yeah, yeah

Chiffon, Crystal, and Ronette:
Come on, come on
Come on, come on
Come on, come on
It's suppertime
It's suppertime

Come on, come on
Come on, come on
Come on, come on
It's suppertime
Suppertime, suppertime

Audrey:
I couldn't sleep, I took a Sominex
But voices in my head kept saying
"Go to Seymour, talk to Seymour"
I drank some tea

But gee the feeling wasn't gone
Seymour, sweetheart
Tell me, darling
What's been going on?

Audrey II:
Hey little lady, hello
You're lookin' cute as can be
You're lookin' mighty sweet
No, it ain't Seymour. It's me!

Audrey:
Who? Who? Who said that?
Is somebody else here?
Seymour?
Oh my god...

Audrey II:
You're friendly Audrey Two
This plant is talking to you

Audrey:
Am I dreaming this?

Audrey II:
No, and you ain't in Kansas neither
Do me a favor and get me some water, sweetheart?
I'm real thirsty

Audrey II:
Come on and give me a drink
Hey, little lady, be nice
Sure do, I'll drink it straight
Don't need no glass or no ice
Don't need no twist of lime

Audrey:
I, I don't know if I should!
You just want water, right?
Your branches are dry, poor thing
I-I'll get the can
Here we go!

Audrey II:
And now it's suppertime!

Seymour:
Get off of her!
Get off of her!
You're a monster, and so am I!
It's gotta end!

It'a gotta stop right here!
Maybe you're tough on the outside,
but in there, in that pod, I'll hack you to bits!
Open up! No!

Audrey II:
Ha, ha, ha...
