Saps in Chaps is a 1942 Looney Tunes short directed by I. Freleng.

Plot[]

"Go west, young man, go west." Thousands of Americans started westward expansion. The settlers travels past the Mississippi River, the Black Hills, the Rocky Mountains, and around the Painted Desert to reach Arizona. One desperately thirsty man crawling through the desert is saved when he is served water at Custer's Last Stand, only to continue crawling in thirst after drinking. As wagon trains bring thousands of settlers, towns spring up across the prairie. As civilization begins, a mouse is seen running away from a cowboy cat.

Cowboy culture begins to develop, and a saloon opens up. However, an outlaw tries to rob the saloon. The key man of the west attempts to challenge the outlaw, but gets repeatedly shot to the point of laughing to no end. A rodeo is run, with a champion jumping horse vaulting across a large bar, a horse that throws out the rider and laughs at him, a ferocious horse that gets stage fright and walks back, and a young Native riding another Native.

A running gag is the postman from the Pony Express trying to ride a horse, but ends up failing to get on the saddle. The postman is run out of the countryside and eventually the horse is riding atop of the postman.
