Samuel Gerard is a Deputy U.S. Marshal serving as the deuteragonist of 1993's original film The Fugitive and the protagonist of the 1998's spin-off U.S. Marshals. He was played by Tommy Lee Jones.
Sam Gerard is a hard nosed, rebellious, apathetic U.S. Marshal. With a snarky personality and a sheer determination. When Sam sets out to catch a fugitive, he pulls no stops at trying to be three steps ahead of them. He does not care if the fugitive is innocent or guilty, because his job is simply to catch them. He does however care for the safety and wellbeing of his teammates, prepared to kill whoever threatens them. If a team mate dies on his watch, it makes the catch much more personal. While stubborn, he isn't unreasonable and should there be more to it than he is let on, Sam will investigate if it brings him closer to his catch. Should there be 100% evidence his catch is innocent he will try to negotiate with them, promising to help them with it.
