Professor Marvel is the minor character of the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. As the Wizard of Oz's Kansas counterpart, he was portrayed by the late Frank Morgan, who also portrayed the Wizard of Oz.

Personality

Though he may see like a con artist, Marvel is actually a good man with noble intentions to help those in need. When he learned Dorothy Gale had run away from home, he knew that the girl leaving her family was wrong and orchestrated a "crystal ball" reading to convince the girl to return home, knowing her family did care about her deep down. He even showed concern for Dorothy as he worried about her when a cyclone reached the farmlands of Kansas and arrived at the Gale House to check on Dorothy.
