Steven Spielberg presents Pinky, Elmyra & the Brain (originally announced as The Continuing Adventures of Pinky and the Brain and later Pinky and the Brain: The Elmyra Years; often abbreviated as PEatB) was a short-lived sequel series to Pinky and the Brain and also a spin-off of Tiny Toon Adventures, originally aired on Kids' WB in the 1998-99 television season. It was created as a result of demands by WB Network executives demanding that Pinky and the Brain be made more kid-friendly, coupled with executive producer Steven Spielberg having wanted to give Elmyra Duff her own show. This decision was not received well by the writers, with Peter Hastings lampooning it in his final script for the original show, "You'll Never Eat Food Pellets in This Town Again". Fans also did not approve of this, and the show was ultimately canned midway through its lone season, with half of its episodes premiering as part of The Big Cartoonie Show. It was never shown alongside its predecessor show's reruns on Nickelodeon and Toon Disney (although it ironically was packaged for broadcast on said networks along with the original show), but was released on DVD in 2014 and has been made available on Hulu alongside its sister shows.
In 2017, Animaniacs and Tiny Toons creator Tom Ruegger, who had little involvement in the production of PEatB, officially stated on his Twitter feed that the show is not considered canonical to either Tiny Toons or Animaniacs. This is further enforced in "Of Mice and Memes", the first Pinky and the Brain segment in the Animaniacs reboot, which opens with the mice still living in Acme Labs in 1998 as though PEatB never happened, and Brain beginning work on his new plan, which takes him 22 years.
Premise[]
Sometime after the events of their original show, Pinky and the Brain go on the run when Acme Labs is torn down (eventually turned into a Disney Store, as revealed in an episode parodying The Raven) and a nefarious scientist named Wally Faust begins pursuing them for use in his own experiments. At some point, they hide out in a pet store and are purchased, along with a turtle, by Elmyra Duff from Tiny Toons. Now living among Elmyra's many caged pets, Pinky and the Brain continue to conduct plans for world domination - provided, of course, they can survive the treatment of their new owner.
Despite being a spin-off of Tiny Toon Adventures and taking place in Acme Acres, no other characters from the older show ever make an appearance; Elmyra's family, who were prominently featured alongside her in the Tiny Toons episodes "Take Elmyra Please" and "Grandma's Dead", are even noticeably absent. Also, a new character, Rudy Mookich, replaces Montana Max as Elmyra's unrequited love interest. Furthermore, Elmyra is no longer depicted as attending Acme Looniversity, instead now being a student at Chuck Norris Grammar School.
