Mr. Samuel "Sam" Tze Wing is the overarching protagonist from the 1984 film Gremlins and its sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch and the elderly antique shop owner.
Appearances[]
Gremlins[]
Mr. Wing is first seen when a customer named Randall Peltzer came into his antique shop to buy a Christmas present for his son, Billy. Upon noticing a mogwai named Gizmo, he offers to buy it, but Mr. Wing refuses, saying that mogwai comes with much responsibility and that he cannot sell him at any price, despite that he and his grandson are poor. Even when his grandson pleaded his grandfather to let Randall buy it, Mr. Wing still refused to change his mind. However, unknown to Mr. Wing, his grandson secretly sold Gizmo to Randall at the price of $200 behind his back, and even warns Randall the three rules to take care of Gizmo.
He wasn't seen again until the end of the film when he found out about the chaos that happened in the town (and with implication that he was severely disappointed with his grandson when he also found out about the sale of Gizmo), he shows up at the Peltzers' residence. Angry at the events that the Gremlins have caused which is shown on the news and the Peltzers' carelessness of taking care of Gizmo, he berates the family for not taking care of Gizmo properly. He demands that Gizmo is to be taken back to his shop, and the family obliges. Before leaving, Gizmo tells his owner that he grown attached to Billy, and then he warmly comments that Billy might some day be ready to care for Gizmo. He then departs with Gizmo back to the antique shop.

Mr. Wing is seen turning off the TV that Gizmo was watching after it was given to him as a gift by Daniel Clamp, a billionaire. He is then approached by the head manager of Clamp Enterprises, Forster, who offers Mr. Wing money to sell the shop to Clamp, but he refuses. However, Mr. Wing is dying of old age, and not before his passes away, he lets Gizmo's cage unlocked and open, which possible meaning that he is letting him free.
Six weeks after the passing, the shop was completely demolished and the mourning Gizmo was taken to be a guinea pig of scientists in the Clamp Center's laboratory.
