When Sawyer skips school because of Winter, he is displeased about it, as is Sawyer's mother, Lorraine, who is moved by what Sawyer is going through. She has a serious discussion with Mr. Doyle about it, and withdraws Sawyer from the class. At the end of the film, even Mr. Doyle is impressed by Sawyer's work, and gives him credit for summer school.
