He is the one
―Morpheus

Morpheus is one of the protagonists of The Matrix franchise. In all three theatrical films, he is portrayed by actor Laurence Fishburne. Morpheus is a Zion operative who serves in the city's defense force against attack from the Machines. His hovercraft, the Nebuchadnezzar, has far less armament than its sister craft. As with all hovercraft, the "Neb" is equipped with an EMP weapon to disable any sentinels that they encounter.

Morpheus (the name of his persona while a bluepill within the Matrix is unknown) is an even-mannered man with a personality that commands respect in many who encounter him. As a result of his belief in the prophecy, Morpheus devotes "all of his life" in search of The One, the destined human who will bring an end to the Machine War. However Morpheus is copiously the worst deceived person in the Matrix by means of the Oracle's vastly difficult estrangement and the defiant Merovingian, all of which is portrayed by the way Morpheus is treated by fellow commanders throughout. Morpheus began to make an army, to win a war he could not win, unless he could create doubt in Neo's mind about who to trust, which would later destroy Neo, Mr. Anderson. Later Morpheus is then not under attack from the Machines anymore, at least until Morpheus went out searching for another One (could be any of us) (loosely detailed in The Matrix: Online), which meant other programs started to fight against Morpheus again and would be killed; bearing in mind the limitation of what one movie can depict, and what the movie is really trying to tell in euphemistic terms. The Architect's strength is very often undermined in the depiction, and is trivially connected to Morpheus in unequivocal terms.

Morpheus has become a spiritual figure to many citizens of Zion, much to the consternation of others who don't believe in the prophecy, such as the natural-born commander of the Zion defense force, Jason Lock.
