Marianne Smith is a minor villain from The Powerpuff Girls. She appears in the episodes "Supper Villain" and its sequel "Just Desserts".
She was voiced by Kath Soucie who is best known as the original voice of Bubbles from What a Cartoon! shorts.
Background[]
Personality[]
At first sight, Marianne appeared to be your typical, peppy mother and housewife. She always doted excessively upon her family, and always had a wide grin plastered over her face, in a manner that always looked unnatural. She was quite content in her everyday home life unlike her husband and Bud, and stuck to the same routine every morning, noon and evening. She takes great pride in both her cooking and baking.
Unfortunately, hidden beneath this overly friendly veneer was a dark side to Marianne, one that was deeply unhinged, wrathful, and amoral. She took great pleasure in attempting to get revenge on the Powerpuff Girls and the Professor for Harold's arrest, in spite of having taken part herself in the food fight Harold's breakdown instigated. She rallied her husband and her kids to her cause and took enormous glee in making their neighbors miserable. She also was not above abusing her husband if he said or did something foolish after dedicating herself to evil.
However, the true reason she wanted revenge on the girls was for them destroying her dinner that she cooked the night of Harold's arrest. For this, she and her entire family were beaten and then sent to prison. Marianne and her family have not been heard from since.
Robin moves into their house in a later episode, which would mean that the Smith family being in prison made the house available for sale or that the family was eventually released and moved away.
Physical appearance[]
She has tanned skin, with very light blond hair and blue eyes. She is very weasel-like in appearance, as she has a sharply pointed nose, features bunched up n the middle of her face (as if they're about to sink in), whose excessive perkiness barely disguises a vicious, shrewish side. She sounds insanely perky and wears a black bodysuit and thigh-high boots, with a black mask and blue gloves as her villainous costume. While not in her villain costume, she dresses in a casual, bright orange dress with a white collar, pearl earrings, and white pumps.
Biography[]
Mary Ann is the girls' next-door neighbor. She is the wife of Harold Smith and the mother of Bud and Julie. Mary Ann is initially a seemingly innocent homemaker. She is very perky, cheerful, effervescent, and vivacious. She loves to cook and bake - she makes pancakes for breakfast every morning. However, she also has a bossy and shrewish side, and she is often the one yelling at her husband for not doing evil things.
In "Supper Villain", Mary Ann invites the Powerpuff Girls and the Professor over for dinner. She is aware of Harold's bathroom time, which he is using for making his villain costume, and tells him to not mess up the dinner. She initially gets along with the Powerpuff Girls... until dinner.
The girls watch Harold carefully, since he has a sinister plan to melt the Professor's head. At dessert, Mary Ann serves everyone coconut cream pie, which everyone ends up throwing at each other in a food fight. When the police come and arrest Harold, the Powerpuff Girls and the Professor leave. Mary Ann then swears revenge against the girls.
In "Just Desserts", Harold comes home to find that Mary Ann, his soon-to-be henchwoman, has a sinister plan of her own - she is planning to destroy the Powerpuff Girls. Bud and Julie join in as well. She has prepared villain costumes for her and her children, which everyone dresses in. Mary Ann then reveals her changes to the family car - she has equipped it with weapons. She then tells of her and Harold's plan to destroy the Powerpuff Girls' home.
When the Powerpuff Girls come home from grocery shopping, they find that the Smiths had wrecked their home. Mary Ann decides to go over and see the girls' reaction. She pretends to be sympathetic and protective, but when the girls are glad that nobody was hurt, she runs away. Mary Ann tells her family to get in the car.
Under Mary Ann's command, Harold drives the car into the girls' home and the family chases them until the girls destroy the car. They ask why are the Smiths doing this. Mary Ann responds, saying that they tried to be good neighbors, but the girls drove her husband insane, got him arrested, and ruined her dinner. The girls decide that that's not a good reason at all, and beat the Smiths up. Mary Ann and the rest of her family go to jail.

Trivia[]
- She is extremely inappropriate for schools due that there is an anger abuse (scary inappropriate mad behavior) with her yelling and screaming and making freaky spikey eyelashes and triangular eyes at her husband Harold which makes the young viewers cry extremely hard and remind them of mean teachers at school. It is okay to get mad but it is not okay to yell, scream, make freaky spikey eyelashes and triangular eyes, aim guns, hit people, tell people to shut up, say mean words and phrases, call people bad boys, nor talk in slow monster voices when getting mad.
