Amanda "Mandy" is the titular tritagonist of The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy series.
She is shown to be a pretty vile individual who rarely smiles (in fact when Mandy smiles it has cataclysmic effects). She treats everyone around her with contempt, especially Grim and Billy, though she does seem to see Billy as a friend of sorts. She is also the main antagonist of the crossover episode "The Grim Adventures of the Kids Next Door", where she took over the Kids Next Door’s Moonbase.
Background[]
Official Description[]
"Mandy is a merciless, unsmiling foe who is as likely to demolish her opponents with her razor sharp wit as with her powerful fists. Given enough time, Mandy could beat up a thousand monkeys with a thousand typewriters."[1]

Characterization[]

Personality[]
In stark contrast to Billy, who is loud, happy-go-lucky, chaotic, and dimwitted, Mandy is usually quiet, stoic, orderly, and intelligent. How she is depicted overall depends on the plot of the episode, but she is anti-heroic at best, but outright ruthless at worst, with little to no redeeming qualities whatsoever. She views herself as being superior to all other characters in the show, including her own parents, who are constantly in fear of her due to her dreadful personality and behavior.
She is cold-hearted, brutish, cranky, bitter, and behaves in a far more superior manner compared to most of the characters on the show. When Mandy was a baby, she was shown to have never smiled; she was even visibly unhappy when in her mother’s womb. She aspires to dominate the planet with an iron fist and to stay as far away from Irwin as possible.
Mandy’s antagonistic behavior has left her parents fearing her, staying far from Mandy sometimes. Her mother showers her with money. While Billy usually gets the trio into trouble, she is usually the one to get them out of it, along with Grim who - without her force - would not even bother trying to help.
Billy claims she has an irrational fear of figure skaters, but she denies this by saying she "doesn't trust the way they spin is all". Mandy also has a high level of intelligence, and a strength not to be reckoned with. She has an almost superhuman force as she is able to battle monsters with ease as well as being able to understand complex theories of the world when referring to her intelligence, despite being a child.
She also never misses a chance to exploit the stupid, which initially justifies her attachment to Billy, though she does grow to genuinely care for him over the years they know each other. Mandy struggles immensely to deliver human emotions other than anger and cynicism, and sometimes seems genuinely disheartened that she doesn’t meet the expectations of a normal girl of her age.
Physical appearance[]
Even though Mandy is controlling, manipulative, wrathful, even devilish at times, she seems like an average little girl wearing a pink dress with a yellow flower in the center, black Mary Jane shoes, white socks (although they are barely visible at times) pale skin, and blonde hair accessorized with a black headband. Although she has black eyebrows that are thick and they are almost always furrowed and a frown to match which gives her a scowling expression most of the time, and her hair is curved into a style resembling devil horns.
In the show's regular art style, she has no visible nose, but small nostrils. She has black pupils, but on some occasions, she is shown to have blue eyes, suggesting that her eye color is blue. Such as in My Peeps, after zapping Billy with his scythe, she and Grim are both seen in anime form revealing Mandy to have blue eyes and a small angular nose. In Underfist, Mandy's eyebrows are thinner, her eyes are bigger and her head is wider.
Powers and abilities[]
- Despite her lack of supernatural powers, Mandy primarily relies on using her intelligence and intimidating demeanor to get her way and resolve difficult challenges. She is capable of using her wits and boldness to exploit the mental and emotional weaknesses of certain individuals and then uses her intimidating appearance and personality to weaken their resolve and thus allow her to gain the upper hand over them or even seemingly control their minds due to the emotional scars she may cause them, however this usually does not work on individuals of equal intelligence to her or those who have a strong will.
- Being that she is still human, there are still several occasions in which Mandy is outwitted, imprisoned or about to be destroyed, at which point she relies on either her wits to think of a way out or on Grim and Billy to help her out or by manipulating them or someone else nearby. Considering that most of the other characters in the series tend to lack common sense, Mandy is able to figure out simple solutions that others were usually oblivious to.
- Mandy also has superior physical strength and martial arts skills which she can use to best most ordinary humans and even some large monsters, but her most notable ability is her intimidation and manipulation skills.
- It appears that Mandy's behavior has some sort of relation to the natural order of the universe, as shown in the episode, "My Fair Mandy" where it is shown that if she smiles against her own will, the very fabric of the universe will unravel and warp itself into a completely new reality.
- Like a few characters in the series, Mandy usually gains temporary powers via supernatural, technological or magical means, such as via Grim's Scythe, ancient artifacts or some sort of vehicle, weapon or robot. Her most notable power boosts were those she gained through artifacts such as the Chicken Ball and the Left Hand of Horror (in an alternate future in which she became The Lord of Horror), or when she fused with the Brain Eating Meteor and the Delightful Reaper. In an alternate future, she even found a way to make herself immortal by combining her body with worm DNA, after which she proceeded to conquer the planet.
- When she tries to force a smile, it has the power to rip the dimension she is in demonstrated in the beauty pageant in the episode "My Fair Mandy" making a vortex to transition the cartoon into the Powerpuff Girls' world. This is due to the disruption of balance in the world that she does not smile ever. However, in the first season, Mandy was seen smiling.
History[]
Past[]
When Mandy was a baby, she was shown to have never smiled; she was even visibly unhappy in her mother's womb. When she does smile, it throws off the natural order of the universe as seen in one episode, "My Fair Mandy". However, this did not apply in some earlier episodes, where she smiled only to her friends Billy and Grim. However, she had to smile in front of everybody in the school auditorium when she sang Over the Rainbow as part of a pageant.
Mandy appears to be an average little girl, but is often shown to have an almost supernatural power of her own, it is suggested in some stories she may even be the embodiment of evil itself (though this is never proven), Mandy is capable of terrifying people with a mere glance and tends to display little to no emotion outside her usual contempt.
Mandy seeks to someday rule the world and hates being restrained - in fact trying to restrain Mandy is probably one of the most ill-advised things a person can do, as despite her cold and often emotionless exterior she is more than capable of coming up with plans for hurting any person foolish enough to get on her bad side. Although she is a misanthrope and is willing to plunge humanity into a never-ending sorrow, Mandy tends to do it on her own and refuse to be used by anyone.
Meeting Billy[]
In the episode The Problem with Billy, it was shown that she first met her best friend Billy at an early age, when Billy had repeatedly rung her doorbell until she was annoyed enough to answer. Later, Billy stole her feeding bottle, put it in his mouth and began flushing it like a toilet. When she did, he immediately pointed out that she had no nose and shoved an ice cream cone into her face after she had asked him if he was "some kinda idiot?". She punched him, called him a creep, and slammed the door in his face. He simply giggled in response to this, telling "she digs me", thinking that she liked him.
Years later, she and Billy had met Grim on the day of the tenth birthday of Billy’s pet hamster, Mr. Snuggles. Grim had appeared to reap the soul of the hamster as it was time for the hamster “to kick the bucket” as Mandy had said earlier in the episode, but neither the hamster nor the duo would give in. So, they made a bet. If Grim beat them in a game of limbo, he could have Mr. Snuggles and Billy, but if the kids won Grim had to be their best friend forever. However, the kids won after Mandy cheated in the limbo contest and Grim has been stuck with them since. In the episode Sickly Sweet, Mandy turns into a monster with the combination of Hippopotamus, Alligator, Bear, and Iguana by "The Mask of Beast" for her cynical attitude with Billy and Grim.
Meeting Grim[]
She and Billy had met Grim on the day of the tenth birthday of Billy’s pet hamster Mr. Snuggles in the first episode of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, "Meet the Reaper". Grim had appeared to reap the soul of the hamster as it was time for the hamster “to kick the bucket” as Mandy had said earlier in the episode, but neither the hamster nor the duo would give in. So, they made a bet. If Grim was able to beat them in a game of limbo, he would reap Mr. Snuggles' soul. However, if Mandy and Billy won, they would keep Mr. Snuggles as their pet and Grim would be their best friend “forever”. Billy and Mandy had won - though not in a completely fair way - and Grim has been stuck with them since.
Her First Crush[]
In "Crushed", there is a dance happening at the school soon, and Irwin very nervously asks Mandy to go with him, which she rejects. Suddenly, Billy walks over to Mandy and Irwin as he shouts to everyone in the hallway that he has a new friend; he is walking with a boy they haven't seen before, who wears sunglasses and does not talk. Billy says he still doesn't know his name yet, and so calls him 'Piff'.
After examining him, Mandy realizes that she likes him, but he does not like her - or anyone for that matter, due to how rude he is by ignoring everyone. Mandy goes to the school nurse, but she just concludes that she is 'in love'. Billy later takes him home to meet Grim, and Grim politely asks what the boy's name is, but gets spat in the face in response. Billy then takes Piff to the kitchen for snacks, when Mandy approaches Grim and asks him to cut her heart out of her so she can't feel emotions anymore.
However, Grim proposes instead to give her a makeover, which Mandy agrees to. Several minutes later, Mandy - now wearing heavy make-up, more revealing clothes, and a more stylish hairdo - goes to the kitchen and confronts Piff, who is immediately attracted to her. Like Irwin from earlier, Piff nervously asks Mandy to go to the dance with him, but she rejects him, before whacking him in the face, satisfying Grim and impressing Billy.
Her Smile[]
When she smiles in "My Fair Mandy" while she sings for the competition, it throws off the natural order of the universe due to her overwhelming cuteness, though this does not apply in some earlier episodes, since she smiles only to her friends Billy and Grim. But she had to smile in front of everybody in the school auditorium. However, in The Cartoon Network Minecraft Show, she heavily smiles, and becomes happy to meet new people.
Appearances[]
The Grim Adventures of the KND[]
Mandy is the main antagonist of the crossover episode "The Grim Adventures of the KND", as she took over the Kids Next Door’s Moonbase and use organization's technology tried to conquer the world. Later she merged with the Delightful Reaper to control the criature and tried to assimilate the multiverse until she was defeated by Nigel Uno and Grim. She finally escapes swearing revenge.
Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy and Underfist[]
In history between Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy and Underfist, due to the lack of president in the United States, elections are held to elect a new president. Mandy is presented and manages to win. After that, she sends transfer the Dome of the White House to her own house in Endsville, turning this home into the New White House. She also changes the design of the Flag of the United States for a style more to her, with pink and yellow stripes and replacing the 50 stars on a blue silhouette of her face and name to Billy and Grim as her mad scientists, building a laboratory under her home. As is shown in the episode "Mandy Merciles," it is known what would happen after.
In said episode, Billy, Mandy, Grim, and Irwin decide to look into the future for fun because they are hot and bored. Soon, Billy, Grim, and Irwin will regret having done so because in the future Mandy rules the world in the dark form of an immortal hybrid half human half worm demon, leads an army of current Mandy-resembling robots and creates mutants for combat resistance. Grim is still her "best friend" but also her right-hand and she has created a complex line of Billy clones. Mandy tells one of the "Billies" that, in the past, she discovered in their research that combining her DNA with a worm she would be immortal. Mandy's source of power is cinnamon and she has enslaved humanity to extract it for her from mines. She lies to Billy about cinnamon's only weakness saying it is the frogs. Grim leads Billy into the team of resistance against Mandy, and Billy tells them about the frogs, leading them to attack her with them and getting arrested by Mandy. Mandy sentences Grim to the worst of his systems torture for treason and winks devilishly knowing that current Mandy is seeing her.
Although it seems that Mandy accomplishes all her goals and plans in the future, the ending of the episode "Modern Primitives", set millions of years into the future, depict the Earth to be abandoned, with no trace of any human, with only Billy and Fred Flintstone remaining frozen underground until some aliens discover them. This could be, as such, an indication that perhaps sometime in the future, Mandy may have been overthrown and/or died, but this is up for debate.

They then escape the dimension as it, to, is destroyed. They then take the capsule to Samurai Jack's dimension. FusionFall[]
Mandy appears as a NPC in Cartoon Network Universe: FusionFall and its fan revivals. She is a human from Endsville, and the friend of Grim (aka the Grim Reaper) and Billy. While she may look like a normal girl, Mandy is a cunning and merciless individual who has managed to trick Grim into being at her and Billy's mercy as her best friend forever. [2][3]
When Planet Fusion's invasion of Earth began, Mandy scoffed at Lord Fuse's supposed simpleton antics and instead, inspired by Mojo Jojo's plans to create an army of Monkey Minions, sought to create an army of her own. While she would come close though, the efforts of the Avatar and other heroes have ensured that Mandy's nefarious instincts have not led her astray in the war.
She can be found at Devil's Bluff plotting to raise her own troops after hearing about Mojo Jojo and his plans for creating an alien army. She also hands out guide missions for those following Mojo Jojo, foiling some of Mojo's plans for the hero, while aiding herself with others. She is very grumpy and angry most of the time.
When Billy steals the player's power to activate the totems to protect the planet from Fuse's clutches, Mandy was the key that helped the player recover those powers. She gave the player the Pillow of Common Sense and told the player to smack Billy with it. Strangely, it worked and it absorbed the player's powers back from Billy. Mandy would have kept the pillow and the powers, but decided she already had enough common sense and gave the player back the powers and also helped the player locate a nearby totem.

Additionally, in the episode Scary Poppins, Mandy demands from her mother and father that they frame her "Goth metal posters," indicating that while she may not exactly be a "Goth kid," she has a taste for Goth music.
