Lawrence "Larry" Chucklesworth is the pentagonist of Laika's 24th full-length animated feature film Wonka.

Background[]

Larry Chucklesworth is a local comedian who became one of the workers of Bleacher and Mrs. Scrubitt, two Dickensian monstrosities who run a laundry house.He is also a friend and ally of Willy Wonka, the aspiring chocolatier and protagonist of the film.

Personality[]

Larry is a humorous person who often cracks jokes and makes fun of the situations he faces. He is also loyal and supportive of Wonka and his other friends, helping them in their quest to make and sell chocolate and escape from the tyranny of the Chocolate Cartel.

Physical Appearance[]

Larry is a middle-aged man with curly brown hair and a thick mustache. He wears a brown suit with a red bow tie and a matching hat. He also carries a cane that he uses as a prop for his comedy routines.

Role in the film[]

Larry plays a significant role in the film, as he is one of the first people to befriend Wonka and encourage him to pursue his chocolate-making dreams. He also helps Wonka in sneaking in and out of the Scrubbit's place, where Wonka secretly sells a lot chocolate in town.   Larry also participates in the final heist, where Wonka and his friends infiltrate the cathedral to retrieve the ledger that contains the evidence of the Chocolate Cartel's illegal activities.

  • Larry Chucklesworth is portrayed by Rich Fulcher, an American comedian and actor who is best known for his work in Marriage Story, Disenchantment, and The Mighty Boosh.
  • Larry's name is a reference to Charles Dickens, the author of many novels that depict the harsh realities of the Victorian era, such as Oliver Twist and A Christmas Carol.
  • Larry's comedy style is inspired by the British music hall tradition, which was popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Music hall was a form of variety entertainment that featured songs, jokes, sketches, and other acts.
