John “Johnny” Christopher Depp Jr. is an American actor, voice actor, comedian, producer, and musician. His first major role was Glen Lantz in the 1984 classic horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street. In 1990, he portrayed the titular character of Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands (now owned by Disney following the merger of Disney and 20th Century Studios), which was the beginning of his long collaboration with Burton. He also played the titular character of the 1993 Paramount film What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Frederick Abberline in the 2001 horror film From Hell, Willy Wonka in the 2005 Warner Bros. film adaptation of Roald Dahl's novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the titular character of the 2007 musical slasher film Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (which earned him an Oscar Award nomination), and voiced the titular character of the 2011 Paramount/Nickelodeon animated Western comedy film Rango.
