Good Warner Hunting it's the 1st segment of the 5th episode of 2020 animated series Animaniacs.
The Warners are trying to think of new ideas for the show, but they're stuck with nothing. They wonder what happened to most of the characters, like Minerva Mink, Slappy Squirrel, Goodfeathers, etc. The fate is soon discovered that a hunter named Dr. Walter Grubb took them and mounted them on his wall. Grubb is vowing to search and capture the Warners to finish his collection. Grubb sneaks into the studio, but instead, the Warners seem excited to be captured. The Warners run into the park and get comfy in a haystack. The Warners ask Grubb to read him a bedtime story, which is really just the Warners' plan to get him to fall asleep. The Warners go back home, and the next morning Grubb wakes up outraged. Grubb catches the Warners, and brings them to his mansion. Once there, the Warners notice he has every cartoon character in the show except Pinky, the Brain, and Chicken Boo. The Warners aren't surprised, however, since Boo was the least popular character (at least according to Yakko), and he wasn't allowed in the reboot. After this point is brought up, Grubb is revealed to be Chicken Boo in disguise. Yakko Warner lets Chicken Boo run away, anticipating for the other cartoon characters coming out from the wall and chasing Chicken Boo.
Trivia[]
Notes[]
Almost every member of the original Animaniacs cast returns for this episode, most prominently Chicken Boo.
A Hunting We Will Go plays during the title card.
The title is a pun on the 1997 movie Good Will Hunting.
When the entire cast confront Chicken Boo, most of them appear to be traced into the shot from their original promo/model sheet art, particularly noticeable on Rita, Runt, Skippy, Bobby and Pesto. Hints include their similar poses, Bobby and Pesto’s faces, and Runt's hair.
The cast confronting and chasing after Chicken Boo includes Slappy, Skippy, Mindy, Buttons, Rita, Runt, Minerva Mink, Newt, Katie Ka-Boom, Phar Fignewton, the Hip Hippos, Charlton Woodchucks, the Mime, Squit, Pesto, Bobby, Miles Standish, and Mr. Skullhead.
However, Wilford Wolf was not in this segment to confront Chicken Boo with the others.
Yakko and Dr. Walter Grubb mention Steven Seagull, Walter John Wolf, the Godpigeon, Stinkbomb D. Basset, and Beanie the Brain-Dead Bison. Walter Wolf and Godpigeon are seen mounted on Dr. Walter Grubb's wall but weren’t seen at the end. The Flame also appears as one of Dr. Walter Grubb's trophies, but doesn’t appear at the end as well.
The characters that were shown stuffed and mounted as trophies once the Warners are at Dr. Walter Grubb's mansion include Slappy, Skippy, Mindy, Buttons, Rita, Runt, Pesto, Bobby, Squit, Godpigeon, Miles Standish, Phar Fignewton, Minerva Mink, Newt, the Hip Hippos, the Mime, Mr. Skullhead, Walter Wolf, and the Flame. Charlton Woodchuck's fur coat was also seen.
Pinky and The Brain are the only characters not to appear on this segment due to the fact that they were one of the few segments to return on the reboot.
However, similar looking mice characters can be seen in the background, including one that vaguely resembles Pinky’s Mother from the spin-off.
Some generic animals on Grubb’s wall resemble the animal characters from Jamalot in Hooray for North Hollywood (Part 2).
Batman Vs. Superman and Friends were referenced.
This segment makes fun of the fact that the series doesn’t have as many characters as the original Animaniacs.
In the Español subtitles on Hulu, Chicken Boo is referred to by his name from the original series’ Español dub, Kikiri Boo (albeit mis-spelled in some parts). At the end, his theme song’s subtitles even have the original Español dub’s lyrics.
Goofs[]
Wakko mentions that Baynarts/Charlton stars in My Father the Tuna in episode 74 of the original series. In actuality, Charlton’s My Father the Tuna was a brief gag in The Warners' 65th Anniversary Special, while his later starring role in episode 74 was The Kid in the Lid.
When the old Animaniacs cast is chasing Chicken Boo, Buttons, Mindy, Bobby, Newt, Phar Fignewton, Miles Standish or Mr. Skullhead are not seen chasing him.
Despite chasing after Chicken Boo at the end, Katie Ka-Boom, Phar Fignewton, and Miles Standish weren’t anywhere to be seen in Dr. Walter Grubb's mansion, though it was possible that they were somewhere else. Trophies of Steven Seagull, Stinkbomb D. Bassett, and Beanie the Brain-Dead Bison weren’t seen as well.
