Gigantis, the Fire Monster is the 1959 Kaiju film, it's the English-dubbed version of Toho’s 1955 film Godzilla Raids Again, the second installment in the Godzilla franchise . It follows the story of two prehistoric titans Godzilla (renamed “Gigantis” in the dub) and his rival Anguirus as they reign havoc over Osaka, culminating in a dramatic battle that ends with Gigantis entombed in ice. The English dub was produced and edited by Hugo Grimaldi.

Plot[]

Two pilots from a tuna fishing company, Shoichi Tsukioka and Koji Kobayashi, stumble upon a fierce battle between two prehistoric titans, Gigantis (Godzilla under a new name) and Anguirus on Iwato Island. The monsters follow the men back to Osaka, where their rampage devastates the city. While the military and the pilots attempt to lure Gigantis away using flares, an accidental fire triggers further destruction. In the aftermath, Kobayashi is killed during a final confrontation, inspiring Tsukioka to lead a missile strike that buries Gigantis in a snowy avalanche, temporarily ending the monster’s reign of terror.

The film premiered theatrically in the United States on May 21, 1959, distributed by Warner Bros. as part of a double feature with Teenagers from Outer Space . It also opened in Canada on June 19, 1959. The English dub was generally panned by critics and audiences for poor dubbing, pacing, and tonal shift; some viewers still enjoy it ironically for its campy charm.
