"Finale Ultimo" is a song featured in the 1967 film Camelot with music written by Frederick Loewe and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner. In the song, King Arthur (Richard Harris) realizes that, although most of his plans have fallen through, the ideals of Camelot still live on in this simple boy. Arthur knights Tom of Warwick (Gary Marsh) and gives him his orders—run behind the lines and survive the battle, so he can tell future generations about the legend of Camelot. Watching Tom leave, Arthur regains his hope for the future.
Lyrics[]
Each evening, from December to December
Before you drift to sleep upon your cot
Think back on all the tales that you remember
Of Camelot
Ask every person if he's heard the story
And tell it strong and clear if he has not
That once there was a fleeting wisp of glory
Called Camelot
Camelot! Camelot!
I know it gives a person pause
But in Camelot, Camelot
Those were the legal laws
Where once it never rained till after sundown
By 8 am the morning fog had flown
Don't let it be forgot that once there was a spot
For one brief shining moment
That was known as Camelot
