"Bad Medicine" is the third episode of the first season of Femme Fatales, and the third of the overall series. It aired on Cinemax on May 20, 2011.

Plot[]

Nurse Violet MacReady must cope with more than just a bad boyfriend on the overnight shift when an injured psychopath takes over the hospital.

Opening segment[]

"All superheroes have a story of origin, from an awkward teenager that's bitten by a radioactive spider, a daring test pilot that's bestowed a very powerful ring, an alien from the planet Krypton that crash-lands on Earth. A femme fatale, you see, well, she's cut from similar cloth. Some women are born to be empowered and dangerous and they embrace it according to their nature. Well, the essence of a femme fatale may be lying dormant, just waiting for fate to see her free."

Synopsis[]

Violet MacReady, a female night shift duty nurse, is having an affair with a male surgeon named Greg Cooper, who promises to get her reassigned to the day shift so that they can spend more time together. That night, at work, Violet is called to the ER, where Laz Swan, a male gangbanger, and two rivals are being treated for stab and gunshot wounds. Laz makes a very crude pass at Violet.

Things get even worse when Violet goes to speak to hospital administrator Amy Auster and finds her having an affair with Greg. Greg's bogus explanations are interrupted by the sound of gunfire in the ER. Greg hides while Violet goes to the aid of a nurse injured in the shoot-out between Laz and his rivals. As the police pull up outside, Laz forces Violet to escort him to an alternate exit. They pass the hospital pharmacy and duck inside, only to find that Greg is also hiding there. Violet goads Laz into violently assaulting on Greg. While he is busy tormenting Greg, she grabs a hypo and injects the gangbanger full of sedative. She snatches his gun, but before she can shoot him, the police arrive and arrest Laz.

Three weeks later, Violet tends to Laz in a prison infirmary. The newly-empowered Violet, who has somehow gained will and confidence in the wake of Greg's betrayal, beat up Amy very badly and forced her to give her a transfer. Violet paralyzes Laz with drugs before cutting him up, killing him instantly. She then goes to Greg's loft next and cuffs him to the bed during some aggressive lovemaking. She finally takes some AED paddles from her bag and charges them up before Greg's horrified eyes...

Closing segment[]

"Looks like Greg is in for an electrifying experience. And as for our sweet Nurse Violet, she's blossomed into quite a woman – a newly-minted femme fatale in control of her own destiny and administering her own dose of bad medicine."
