Early life[]
Butler was born on August 17, 1991, in Anaheim, California, the son of Lori Anne (née Howell), an aesthetician,[1] and David Butler.[2][3][4][5] The two divorced when he was seven.[6] He has an older sister, Ashley (born in 1986), who worked as a background actor alongside him on Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide.[4][7]
When Butler was thirteen, he was approached by a representative from a background acting management company at the Orange County Fair who helped him get started in the entertainment industry.[3][4][8][9] He found that he enjoyed it and soon began taking acting classes.[3][8][9]
Butler attended public school until the seventh grade when he left to be home-schooled to accommodate his work schedule.[7][8] He continued his home-school education until the tenth grade when he took the CHSPE to finish his formal high school education.
Career[]
His first acting job was a supporting role in the TV Series Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide. From 2007 to 2008 he starred in the 4th season of Zoey 101 as James Garrett. Other television appearance were Hannah Montana, iCarly, Jonas L.A., Zeke and Luther and Wizards of Waverly Place. In 2009, he was in the TV series Ruby & the Rockits as Jordan Gallagher. This series was unsuccessful and ended after 10 episodes.
Later, he starred with Ashley Tisdale in the film Aliens in the Attic and in Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure. Since 2011, he has appeared in the ABC-Family-Series Switched at Birth.
In July 2019, he appeared in the Quentin Tarantino movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as a fictional version of Manson Family member Tex Watson.[10][11] That same month, Butler was cast as Elvis Presley in Elvis, a biographical movie about the singer directed by Baz Luhrmann.[12]
