Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets[]

Aragog is first briefly seen as a young Acromantula in a flashback that Tom Riddle shows Harry to make him suspect Hagrid is the one responsible for opening the Chamber of Secrets.

When Hagrid is taken to Azkaban, he advises Harry and Ron to follow the spiders. Doing so, they venture into the Forbidden Forest and make their way into Aragog's domain to meet with him. He reveals that Hagrid never opened the Chamber of Secrets, and that the monster living in the Chamber is an ancient creature spiders are truly afraid of. He also tells them that the girl who was killed had been found in a bathroom, before setting his children on them. Fortunately, the Ford Anglia comes to their rescue, returning them to the safety of Hagrid's house.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince[]

Near the end of the 1996-1997 school year, Aragog passes away, with Hagrid, Harry, and Horace Slughorn holding a special memorial service for him. In addition, Slughorn takes some of Aragog's venom, due to Acromantula venom being uncommonly rare.
